State of the Altnets Report

A central part of the event was the presentation of INCA’s 2026 State of the Altnets Report, the definitive analysis of how independent networks are reshaping the UK’s digital infrastructure landscape. The report examines the current state of the Altnet sector, covering market trends, deployment progress and the competitive dynamics that are delivering better networks, better prices and better outcomes for consumers.

Industry Realities Panel

Gita Sorensen led a panel of industry analysts in a wide-ranging discussion of the report’s findings. The panel explored the realities facing the sector, from consolidation and market competition to the investment landscape and the road ahead for independent operators. The discussion highlighted both the challenges and the significant opportunities that lie ahead as full fibre rollout continues across the UK.

Launching betterfibre.uk

One of the highlights of the afternoon was the launch of betterfibre.uk, a new consumer-facing website designed to help people across the UK find better broadband from independent networks. Kieran Bergholcs presented the site, which allows consumers to enter their postcode and discover which Altnets are available in their area. The platform is designed to raise awareness of the alternatives to the major providers and make it easier for consumers to switch to a local independent network.

Looking Ahead

Betterfibre Live demonstrated the strength and ambition of the UK’s independent network community. From parliamentary support for rural connectivity to new tools that put consumers in touch with their local Altnet, the event showcased an industry that is confident in its role in building Britain’s digital future. INCA looks forward to building on this momentum throughout 2026.
